Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that evaluates and acknowledges an individual’s skills, knowledge, and experience gained through formal, informal, and non-formal learning.

It enables people to earn credits or qualifications without traditional schooling by assessing their competencies against national standards. RPL promotes access to education, career advancement, and lifelong learning, aligning with South Africa’s goals of equity and inclusivity in education and the workplace.

At Global Team 12, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process allows individuals to gain admission into academic programs by recognizing their informal or non-formal learning experiences. The process of application involves the following steps:

  1. Identify the Desired Program:
    • Determine the specific course or degree you wish to pursue.
  2. Prepare a Portfolio of Evidence:
    • Compile documentation showcasing your prior learning and experiences relevant to the chosen program. This may include:
      • Certificates from non-accredited courses or workshops.
      • Work-related evidence such as performance appraisals, job descriptions, and testimonials.
      • Personal achievements and awards.
  3. Complete the RPL Application Form:
    • Provide detailed information about your educational background, work experience, and any formal and informal learning.
    • Articulate how your prior learning aligns with the program’s requirements.
  4. Submit the Application:
    • Submit your completed RPL application form along with the portfolio of evidence.
    • Ensure adherence to any specified deadlines and additional requirements.
  5. Assessment Process:
    • The faculty will assess your application to determine if your prior learning meets the program’s standards.
    • This may involve interviews, tests, or further evidence requests.
  6. Outcome Notification:
    • You will be informed of the decision regarding your RPL application.
    • If successful, guidance on the next steps for enrolment will be provided.
